Pat Hogan has worked for the city of Syracuse for over 50 years.

He believes that the heart of our city lies within the neighborhoods, businesses and people. His life has been a career dedicated to these three areas, and he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Pat has been Syracusan all his life, just as the generations of his family have. Born and raised here, he’s always known that he’s never wanted to live anywhere else.

He was raised on the Southside and attended TJ Corcoran High School. Throughout his youth, he played baseball, basketball and football, which began his interest in the city’s parks and recreation.

For 31 years he worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation for the City of Syracuse. Pat focused on running recreation programs in multiple neighborhoods and later worked on the creation of the new Clinton Square. Through this position, he got to know the neighborhoods, businesses and people of our city, in all of its uniqueness and charm.

Pat then spent a few years as a teaching assistant for the Syracuse City School District. He worked with the intervention team, helping to support children with behavioral and academic issues.

In 2006, he began his position on the Common Council for the city government. Pat has been elected to seven terms by the people of the Westside and served as majority whip of the council for two years. Currently, he serves as pro-tempore of the council. His position as a common councilor includes critical duties such as voting on the city budget, reviewing the operation of city departments and acting as the city’s liaison for neighborhood planning. Most importantly, it allows Pat to serve as the citizen’s advocate. This has been one of his most rewarding positions, believing that he has been blessed with the opportunity to listen to and learn from the people of our city.

Pat also works as Chairman for the Greater Syracuse Land Bank, a not-for-profit organization that redevelops vacant and abandoned properties for productive use. The Land Bank takes redeveloped properties and sells them at lower prices to residents looking for a home, or takes vacant properties and renovates them to be higher quality. Some properties may be simply unsalvageable and will be demolished to provide property for new builds. Pat’s position as chairman allows him to work for a cause he is passionate about– the neighborhoods and housing of our city. Considered one of the best Land Banks in the country, he believes it is one of the best resources the city has to rebuild our neighborhoods.

He also holds the position of board chairman of the Onondaga County Industrial Development Authority. He works to encourage economic development and general prosperity for the people of Onondaga County. Funding is generated for the creation of new jobs, examples being the establishment of the Amazon warehouse in Liverpool and the TTM Technologies manufacturing plant in Dewitt. He now plays a role and offers his support for the planned Micron Project. Pat is proud to work with his talented team for the cause of job creation and economic development.

Working in public service has taught Pat that during even the toughest of times, people can depend on their neighbors in this town. There is no doubt to him that Syracuse is a special place. He humbly asks for your support as he plans to continue to support our city and people.
